Thoughts on new front page?

Submitted by Neodymium on June 30, 2025
I respectfully heavily dislike it for the following:

You cant see previous days by just scrolling

Popular quizzes section on right gone, as well as all the other things in the yellow boxes to the right. It just looks like any other quiz site now tbh

The dates are gone and the daily stuff is way down.

Navigation and languages is gone

In general it looks a lot more amateur ig, idk how to say it.

But what do yall think?

Edit: and theres no descriptions too!

I... don't see it currently? I will update this comment when I am able to view it.

Edit: I see it in incognito, uhhh I am not a fan. The ads on the right cut off the quizzes' titles and thumbnails. The trees planted and quizzes taken bubbles look nice. The today's featured quizzes (which aren't solely today's) display the quizzes which were on the front page the longest time ago, so the more recent quizzes on the front page would require quite a bit of scrolling to the right to access, this just doesn't make sense. I like the idea of the popular quizzes appearing high since it will attract more users, at least that was what QM said.

Overall, ad placement cuts off a lot of content, and the scroll bars are very inconvenient on desktop. Perhaps I will get used to this new format, though I doubt it will attract more users, oh well, only time will tell.

How are you even seeing this? It's only show to 50% of people who visit and they have to be new users.

But if you want you can test it out here:

I have to agree, it's just… not good. And not even in a general "change is bad" way, the new design just strips away a lot of functionality for banal rows of pictures.

Please don't let JP turn into every other modernized website.

Yeah, I'm not sure I love it either, honestly. It was based on ideas from this discussion.

But it's one thing to discuss an idea in vague terms. It's another when you actually see it.

I agree that the images take up too much space.

I'll run the test for a couple days to see how engagement looks. Because we need to do something to attract new users. We want new visitors to see our most popular quizzes that will draw them into the site.

It's a good first iteration, to be sure. It just feels very...basic? Like you have the basic structure there but need to add more somehow, idk. I like where it's headed, not so much where it's at now but hey, good start

Also buttons to scroll would probably be better than the scrollbars

Too much focus on thumbnails that rarely explain the quiz, I understand people like images but thumbnails are rarely descriptive enough for a quiz, I feel thumbnails if included should be much smaller.

I don't hate it. I wouldn't say it's better or worse than the current FP, but I know people are gonna hate it regardless just cause they don't like change but they'll already forget about it in a month.

I like the new design! I think there are a few improvements that could be made but as a whole I like it. The rows of thumbnails are very visually appealing, I think a "default" thumbnail for quizzes without one (aside from the plain grey box) would be cool. Not a fan of the removal of the boxes on the side.

I wonder if you could make it so that when you click "more" for today's featured quizzes, it takes you to the traditional front page (or something similar to it). This way you can still go back and see what quizzes were on the front page over the last several days in case you missed them or want to look back.

Also, if you're going for a more Netflix-styled front page, I wonder if having arrows on the sides of the rows of icons to press for moving left/right would be more visually appealing than the current scroll bar that you have to hold and drag.

I actually really like the new design, it looks much cleaner and more modern without really getting rid of the character Jetpunk usually has. One concern is that it looks horrible on mobile but I don’t know if you’re planning for a different layout there that hasn’t been implemented yet

This test front page is way more clean IMO.

Here are my suggestions:

I really like the idea of carousels but:

-they seem too wide onscreen (I would suggest 3 or 4 thumbnails max)

-I would replace the classic horizontal scroll bar with "scroll dots" that you can manually click to go left or right (hope it's clear) -way more modern IMO

-Spotlights carousel should also have an auto setting so that the displayed quizzes changed (ofc with a delay and sufficiant time to be readible).

(this joins the idea of cathlete)

+ I like the colored buttons on top

Also, by making carousels less wide, you can make an "orange-box" displaying the Popular tags. These tags should definitely worth been displayed on front screen.

These Popular tags could otherwise be displayed on a formated row, just under "Today's featured quizzes".

I don't hate it, but I think it is very simplified, maybe there will be more on later incarnations.

Buttons would probably look better than the scroll bars.

Maybe have "Today's Featured Quizzes" as the top line rather than "Popular Quizzes" would give a more up to date feel.

Other than that maybe a few more direct buttons for Games, Message Board, RUB, etc. in a similar style to the two buttons at the top.

It's not designed for mobile yet. It won't serve this page on mobile unless you visit the special page for it.

Oh and let me repost this idea I already suggested:

A banner just under the Header 1 "Welcome to JetPunk", with a catchy text in the style of "Play Quizzes, Create, Boost your Knowledge" or something in the same idea.

The choice of certain power words seems essential to attract the attention of users while clearly indicating/summarizing the purpose of the site.

It would be really nice to go back to the previous model of the front page - or at least have a "toggle" option so people can choose which they'd prefer.

As it stands, the new layout would at least help me cut down on my quiz consumption - as my favourite way to do quizzes is to go back through the featured quizzes by day on the homepage.

Definitely not a fan of the new look.
