Is there a way to change or a point at which the link for your user profile gets updated when you change your username, or does it always stay as your original username?

It automatically updates site-wide, but it may take a while.

Somehow I thought the original question was asking about links to your profile (e.g. above comments, quizzes, etc.). But yes, the URL itself doesn't change.

This does not happen. I changed my name from PontiacLover to Pontiac over half a year ago and still have PontiacLover in the link. It does not update the link.
