Viral Quiz?

Submitted by Dimby on January 11, 2026
I think someone with a decent following must have streamed Wolfcam’s Boston Talk to English Translation. Today, it has a thousand more takes than countries of the world, but isn’t on the front page—very cool! Anyone know what’s up?

It's possible that someone simply shared it in a private group with a lot of members (e.g. a boston facebook group) and that's how it got so many plays.

You better believe I hope every day that this happens to one of my quizzes loooool.

I should probably look into who the big geography streamers are and actually email them. I bet I could make some quizzes that’d be particularly good for streaming. I’d just have to make sure they actually look good.

Jake Lyons tried a quiz of mine without me asking so he'd surely try one of yours if you asked.

Is he famous?

Edit: oh, a #1 GeoGuessr player? Maybe he’d be offended by my MapHunter series 😅

I knew something was up, but don't know what it could be.

Funny, because my quiz also got highlighted, in a YouTube video. Not the most popular YT creator, but still cool. Capybarra notified me of this, so thanks to him!

That’s really neat. I wonder how many content creators use JetPunk somewhat regularly

It would appear to be coming from tumblr, but I can't find the page sending it, either on tumblr or google.

It's pretty surprising to me how rarely this happens.

Except for Google search we get almost no traffic from external referrals. And most of our Google traffic is just people searching for JetPunk.

We might have like 5 days a year which have measurable viral traffic.

And even so, this barely moves the needle. I wouldn't have noticed except that Dimby pointed it out. Today we might see something like a 2% increase in quizzes taken and 5% increase in accounts created compared to expected.

Its' nothing like when we went viral on Facebook in 2014 and saw traffic go up 500% overnight!

I assume twitch streamers will play a JetPunk quiz every now and then, and viewers just google JetPunk or countries of the world, too.

Yeah, that probably happens. Youtube and Tiktok also. We just can't track it.

But rarely does a quiz ever go viral enough to register. Overall, our traffic is remarkably consistent over time.

I wonder how many times it takes to google your username until it becomes a google search suggestion when someone searches up JetPunk.

Spanish contributes to so little of the overall activity here, so it's probably not noticeable among overall traffic, but I know there were many occasions last year where quizzes went "viral" (nothing compared to English's takes) thanks to someone's video on TikTok.

This happened with a lot of Municipalities in [Spanish Province or Region] as well as Municipalities in [Colombian Department].

I've tried reaching out via JetPunk to the TikToker that helped increase Colombian traffic last year, but I heard nothing. I just don't understand TikTok enough to get on there and contact him that way. His name is Geomackenzie. Not incredibly popular, but he noticeably increased Colombian traffic last year.

Makes me wonder if any of my quizzes are in a YouTube video or shared anywhere for that matter. Guess I'll go check

I've seen one of Lucky's quizzes in a YT vid before, the Flags with Gravity series
