Where were you during the great CloudFlare outage of 2025?

We're back! Hopefully it sticks.

JetPunk was down for a couple hours today because (like half the internet) we use CloudFlare.

Why do we use CloudFlare?

1) It increases the speed of the site in various ways

2) It caches static files saving us on bandwidth

3) It blocks DDOS attacks and AI scrapers that, in the last 2 years, have mercilessly attacked any unprotected site

And we only pay them $20/month. It's honestly an amazing service. Which is why everyone uses them... And why the whole internet goes down when Cloudflare does...

If it keeps happening we'll take action, but for now the benefits of Cloudflare are greater than the costs of outages.

Sadly, this was going to be a BIG traffic day for us. Oh well.

It's Tuesday (the best day of the week), it's not a major holiday in any country, we've got a blockbuster quiz on the front page, and yesterday was big.

This was going to be one of our biggest days ever!

I've taken that quiz a few dozen times (and still taking it), attempting to get 5/5 points, so hopefully that mitigates some of the traffic loss ;)

Sad, but true.

As our security measures improve, hackers are getting better too.

Also, this is a direct consequence of the internet relying too much on a single service instead of diversifying.

After reading about the outage of cloudflare, I was happy as I thought QM would just turn it off. Since I have switched to Zong(about a month ago) for internet, I am readily being questioned if I am bot and it doesn't even believe me when I check the box. It is not showing today so it may not occur again.
