Where would you go?

Submitted by Froggodoggo on September 24, 2025
What country (only one) would you go to on a month long holiday?

Some thingamabobs

- You get given $100,000 or the equivalent in the country's currency, no more, and you don't get to keep the money after the holiday

- Your flights are paid for - a Premium Economy Singapore Airlines return flight and no other forms of transport are covered

- You go alone, and the accommodation is quite nice (think Hotel Tentrem in Yogyakarta)

- You can only go to the one country you choose, and no matter the circumstances you can't leave until the full month is up, however you are free to go to as many cities as you'd like within the country

- For anyone thinking somewhere like UK or France with a bunch of overseas territories, these territories will count as their own 'countries' for this hypothetical

Where would you go?

I guess I'll stay in Australia, enjoy getting free money (temporary), free hotel ad flight to somewhere. And maybe visit Antarctica...

There's so much still to see. I forgot what the flight was, but there was one that went around the country, returning to the same spot. Was it Spirit of Tasmania or something?

Well, enjoy the night (and I'll enjoy my free money💰)

You absolute genius

I'd probably like to explore around Australia a bit more too, I've only been to Victoria, NSW, Queensland and ACT so it would be nice to see more of the country

Same (plus SA). Well, I technically went to NSW when driving to ACT...

What state are you in (you don't need to answer, just curious. I'm in VIC)?

All expenses paid for a month? Tanzania, easily. So much incredible biodiversity and ecosystems unlike anywhere else in the world, fascinating culture, great food, plus the opportunity to hike one of the Seven Summits. Also a place that would ordinarily be relatively more difficult to get to (at least when compared to Europe or the Americas). Runner up would probably be New Zealand, for similar reasons.

Everyone go to France please :)

Anyway, I'm choosing Antigua-and-Barbuda. Why ? Because it's random.

Honestly that is 100% valid, which is the reason I'd probably choose Uzbekistan

Japan 100%

I've wanted to go there since I was a kid in the 1970's when I received a globe for Christmas. I did what everyone else has done at some point, I spun the globe and it stopped it with my finger. It landed on Japan, and I've wanted to go there ever since.

Plus the country is so different from the UK in almost every way, the people, the culture, the language, and the scenery.

One day...

You should go

Just take a break from your work or something

Use your money for something

And use it while youre still here

You dont know if youre going to have another chance

So just go now and follow your dreams

Italy. It may sound like a cliche, but sometimes cliches are cliches for a reason.

The locales are stunning, they do have some of the best mountain views ( the Dolomites 🥹 n the Alps) plus gorgeous beaches, towns, people, and an incredible variety of art, museums and UNESCO world heritage sites.

And the food isn’t bad. :) . Though maybe they could add bit of chat masala to make their pastas better…Maybe.

The country needs at leeeeeast a month.

I spent ten years going to Italy almost every week, although it was with work.

I visited places from the north to the far south, and I think I only scratched the surface, Italy is a fantastic place.

It is even better when you get away from the tourist areas, even the smallest village will have a church with an amazing interior, and a fantastic restaurant.

Maybe this is weird since I'd just stay inside the US, but I would probably want to use the money to visit Alaska. I've been to a lot of national parks in the contiguous 48 states, but the majority of the ones I've been to have been pretty crowded. And most of the roads and trails going through the parks are close to civilization so no matter what you're always pretty close to the interstate or a McDonalds.

The thing about Alaska is that it has these absolutely enormous parks with very few visitors. Some of them are only accessible via a chartered flight, so once you get there, you're out in the extremely remote wilderness with all of this beautiful scenery before you. I'd love to spend a month there just camping out and enjoying the solitude. It would be cold of course and there's all sorts of dangers that come with being out in such an inaccessible place but I've never really been able to see the night sky in all its glory and I feel that that alone would make it worth it.

If I don't keep the money after the trip I'm not taking the trip, I'm just losing money if that's the case cause I won't be making money during that same month period I would have been working but I still have stuff to pay for that's not related to the trip.

If the caveat added that I still earned a normal passive income during that same month for when I return from the trip then I would take it, otherwise I'm not taking the trip even if it would be nicer than most trips I've been on cause it's still costing me

I'd probably just stay local since I'm by myself and world traveling isn't that interesting alone, so I'll try to hike as much of the PCT I can in that time, get some good gear with the money.
