Which US States would make the worst countries?

Out of all 50 States which one would absolutely fail on the world stage?

Tough call. Probably West Virginia. Mississippi would be bad too but at least it has a coast and access to the Mississippi.

New Jersey would fall a long way if there was an international border keeping people from commuting to NYC.

Maryland and Virginia would also come down hard since they are the most reliant on the federal government.

If the US is okay with the state succeding, then any state touching a border with another country (excluding the US) would fail from a free takeover. If the US would not be okay with it then every state would fail (We saw this happen from 1861-1865)
