Why do You Love Geography ?

Submitted by Ushuaia on March 9, 2026
Obviously everyone here (or at least most people) likes learning geography - How else would you end up on JetPunk, duh.

But, geography is a very wide subject - You can learn fun facts about countries, cities, just learn cities or stuff like that, and many more. What is your favorite thing to learn in geography ?

I'd really appreciate if you responded, cause I'm also making an article about this for the JPM :)

For me, I just love travelling and learning about different cultures and countries, but recently I've started a race with a friend of mine about learning FLS, which is really fun too, and I've started learning cities, which I also love

My interest in geography is downstream from my interest in history and they've kinda been in a feedback loop for a while.

Mine is really anything I can see a map with. I have always enjoyed going through histroy textbooks in school to find a map about something. I have also truly enjoyed learning about the US Geography (Mainly because I am really good at that) and some ocean geography as well.

I believe when I was like seven years old, I had this interactive globe thing which could tell me facts about the countries. Then when I discovered the internet, all I did was research it to become more obsessed and watched these videos. Then, I discovered JetPunk.

For me it's just something to dedicate my time to. There are so many different areas to learn about as you've stated above, so being able to learn more about this world is something I enjoy. Geography is a huge topic with so much room to grow, so expanding my knowledge on cities, regions, geographic features, etc is an addicting grind that never stops and will always be enjoyable.

I have always been interested. I learned all countries and capitals at seven and did Sporcle then. In 2021 after my brain drained during COVID, I relearned everything on JetPunk and more

I think part of the attraction is the exotic place names. "Kazakhstan" just has this gravitas to it and sense of mystery.

I enjoyed geography ever since there was this map in my first grade classroom which I was obsessed with. I don't know why but that map was so interesting that I wanted to learn more about it.

My parents were both avid travellers, back in a time when it was a more challenging and adventurous thing to do (no internet to book tickets, translate foreign languages, pay for things easily ...) and they took me travelling a lot while I was growing up. I learnt a lot about different countries from an early age and that interest has stayed with me.

I studied geography at university and discovered I particularly loved the human side. I find it fascinating to discover why places are the way they are, based on demographics or other factors.

I don't have the time, funds or opportunity to travel as much as my parents did, unfortunately, so I indulge my passion for the world by learning as much as I can.

A seventh grade geography textbook triggered a deeper love for geography for me. I read it like I read novels and Natgeos and biographies! I was 11, and this love has endured and grown since then!

I had an atlas as a kid and I used to trace roads in it between cities. I don't know what fun it brought to me but that somehow transformed into a love for maps and geography.

Well I love it cause now I can name every country in the word now and the education system isn’t going to teach me that
