Word Search Overhaul

Many changes have been made to word search puzzles:

  • All users can now create their own word searches

  • Word searches now have comments pages

  • Word searches can now be searched directly in the search bar

  • Word searches can be created in other languages (but won't be featurable for now and must be alphanumeric characters)

  • And so much more!

Also, as well as this, I will be featuring a new puzzle on the front page every day, instead of re-using old puzzles.

Small thing: On Dark Mode, the icons next to each "Featured Puzzle", like the square and honeycomb shapes, are not visible (because of the Dark Mode). Not a big deal but.

It works fine on desktop, not on mobile for some reason. I am investigating.

Found the issue, seems to be a caching issue.

No they are a separate takes counter.

As said in the message post above, for now only alphanumeric characters can be used in the grid. I will add compatibility for others later, but it is a much larger change as the entire word search grid functions assume everything is "normalized" into A-Z or 0-9.

I created a puzzle, published it, but it still says "unsubmitted." Is there a check that happens before it goes live?

Yes, the first few puzzles will get checked like how quizzes were for new users.

All new puzzles required moderation for now, as the feature develops. And also to ensure a certain quality level. It should show in Step 4 as "Pending Approval"?

I will only be featuring puzzles with a very nice "looking" grid which are sufficiently dense and have a suitable hidden word. Because of that it's highly encouraged to submit only after succeeding the warnings!

For some reason a blog I updated is pending approval randomly, is this intentional? It hasn't happened ever since my first few posts.

I did tweak this code, you'll age out eventually. Though looking at the stats for you, I have no idea why it is showing as pending. Let me know if you continue to have this issue.

Wow! What a huge addition!

I love the idea of ​​being able to share creations. But I find it surprising that it's placed on the same level as quiz creation in the hierarchy while Word Searches remain in the Minigames category.

Perhaps this is a new direction from JetPunk, to see Word Searches as other "quiz types".

No, they just add to the counter at the bottom of your profile
