Its official name is Tubthumper, even though it's not even on the cover. It probably should just be called Chumbawumba! Oddly, this is one of the first albums I ever owned. My parents noticed that I enjoyed their first two songs on TV and radio and got it for me for Christmas. I was very surprised to find out that Chumbawumba has some serious chops. They had politically motivated and almost avant-garde songs. It's hilarious that they ever even had a hit because they certainly didn't seem to care about commercialism.
I used to help out in my dad's workshop as a kid in the mid 90's, he always had music playing and one of the albums in the rotation was Anarchy by Chumbawumba.
I always thought it was really odd for a middle aged Irish carpenter to be tapping his feet to this unheard of little band singing about homophobia and shooting fascists while he worked. Then even more odd when a couple of years later the band were suddenly all over the TV as one of their songs went mainstream.
The oddness is compounded whenever they pop up in a quiz like this 30 years later.
This was my time, the best music ever! This list is good but just brushes the sides - from grunge through Indy, banging dance music and the heyday of hip hop, the 90’s ruled!
