Onyx is a semiprecious gemstone. You may be thinking of oryx - a type of antelope, which would be a good add, as suggested by others.

I sort of knew okapi, just couldn't spell it correctly. Got it confused with the film Topkapi in my mind and kept trying to add a "t" somewhere. I should have gotten orange roughy, but wasn't thinking about two-word answers. Those were the only two I missed.

So the Orange Roughy is a fish that lives quite deep. When fish stocks close to the ocean's surface fell, we put our nets deeper and discovered loads of Orange Roughies. They are easy to fillet and there were so many that we were burying leftover supplies in big pits. It wasn't until later that we learnt that the Orange Roughy lives to be about 100 years old, and reaches reproductive maturity much later than most fish. Because we harvested in such great numbers, we chronically affected the rate of what's called 'stock recruitment', nearly endangering the species! Very sad story, but hopefully we can learn from it.

You obviously haven't driven on the roads in my area. The deer definitely need thinning. We've totaled five vehicles from deer running into us, and a young man was killed last spring when a deer went through the windshield of his truck. Some animals need to be put on the endangered list, but not whitetail deer in Missouri. (BTW, Venison Oscar is a great dish.)
