Hm! Not Bristol! Guess more of it's in VA.

Thanks for this.

More of it's in TN. It's just that small.

It would be about 44,000 if Bristol, TN and Bristol, VA were combined.

As a person who live in Izmir, Turkey(Original Smyrna) I'm really surprised that there is one more town named after my hometown in USA. There is also New Smyrna Beach in Florida, I learnt that while I was looking Bob Ross' life. He died in there.

There's also a Smyrna in the Atlanta metro area.

I knew they were small, but I figured Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg would make the bottom of the list. Legit surprised to see there are only about 5k residents there!

I thought Sevierville at least.

Sevierville is where all the non-tourist residents of the county live. Gatlinburg especially is very small just in terms of its geographic footprint. It's all nestled in one pretty tight valley, there's not a lot of room for permanent residents.

They sure like their -villes down in Tennessee.

There are two different reasons for this. First, there had been several French fur trading outposts established in the area. Also, as a result of the American Revolution and the War of 1812, there was a deep dislike for the British among many of the American settlers moving into the area at the time. This made the French suffix -ville very popular as compared to British suffixes such as -borough, -bury, or -ton.

There are many suburbs on here, like there are with many other states with quizzes like this one. There is Bartlett, Collierville, and Germantown for Memphis and Hendersonville, Gallatin, Smyrna, Franklin, Brentwood, Spring Hill, and Murfreesboro for Nashville. Knowing the major cities for these states is pretty easy but learning all the smaller satellite towns surrounding them is much more difficult.

Counting Murfreesboro as a Nashville suburb but not Clarksville seems wrong as a local. I'd call them both independent cities with their own suburbs that are close to Nashville, but either way they should be grouped together.

My strategy to use Jackson as a wildcard for all these state quizzes pays off again.

Completely unrelated to this quiz, but Springfield works with most of these as well.

There is a Springfield TN, but it's still very much got a small town feel to it. Couldn't be more than 20k people.

I agree. As a Brit I only knew the first 4 but three in Jackson and Columbia!

As a resident of Tennessee, I feel compelled to give some honorable mentions for weird town names around here: Bucksnort, Pig's Path, Stinking Creek, Turtletown, Bugscuffle, Bugtussle (don't confuse them), and Dismal.

There are actually four Bugtussles in the US (two are two words). It is apparently more popular than I thought.
