I've been following Guangzhou ever since they started building that TV Tower a couple years ago...very respectable city indeed, even if Shanghai Tower will be taller.

Well, this opened my eyes! I am from the -6:00 time zone in the US (central time), and I was convinced that the quiz was broken because it wouldn't accept Chicago. It didn't even occur to me to extend my view all the way south. Respect, Mexico!

Santiago is UTC-3, not -4. The largest city in UTC-4 is Santo Domingo at 2.9 M.

This is correct. Even though Santiago should, by geography, be UTC-5, it is UTC-3, like São Paulo.

this is a good one because you can't simply rely on your map knowledge as time zones are not always, well, never parallel to longitude.

So 55,000 constitutes a major city? I think that one would be very hard for people to get. Even Praia in Cape Verde is pretty much off the radar for most people.

Pyongyang needs to be added, a caveat that winter time is meant here, and +11:30 can be removed as Norfolk switched to +11.

+08:45 is such a weird time-zone, it consists of a small strip of roadhouses around the Western Australia-South Australia border, servicing an isolated section of road connecting the population island around Perth to the rest of the country. It's mindblowing how small all of those communities are too.

Genuinely the most interesting thing I learnt while researching my timezones map quiz!

I never really liked how Guangzhou's population is calculated, but it's based on the fact that it has absorbed like 7 cities around it (Huizhou and Shenzhen are two notable ones), severely boosting its population. Keep in mind Tokyo has about 12 million people before counting pretty much the entire region of Kanto in Japan
