40% thought Cromwell was catholic. This tells you how much people are ignorant when religion is involved.

Or it’s non-British people taking the quiz who are not super familiar with British history. I debated on it for a few.

I'm British and got it wrong, I knew he would be the opposite of Charles I but I couldn't remember if Charles was a catholic or protestant. I knew Elizabeth and James were both protestants so I (incorrectly) guessed Charles was as well.

I remembered he was not of the majority denomination so I was about to mark it as true but then recalled he was puritan.

Technically he was the majority. Puritans are basically a hardline sect of Protestantism.

Except that England's religion has, since Henry VIII, been *very specifically* Church of England. Other sects of Protestantism have been variously considered different or even excluded from public life.

I am from Lebanon and I don‘t even know who this guy is and I only know barely the difference between catholic and the other sect lol

How can you be from Lebanon and cannot differentiate among the different sects of Christianity? In a country made up of several sects and religions.

I only got it because Charley 1 chartered my home state, Maryland, as a "Catholic Proprietary." There's still a significant Catholic presence here, though not the majority it once was.

I had a 50% chance of getting it right, and I chose the wrong answer.

I did get all these right first time, but then I cheated by being British.

I object to compound questions, like "George III went mad at age 30 and died three years later."

great quiz. would be nice if 6, 9 and 12 had some explanation show up at the end, like many of the others do. e.g. what cities? and what was the name of the first Channel swimmer? (obviously i can find these out myself, but i always like it when it's included in the quiz)

No way in hell 45% of quiztakers thought that a woman swam across the Channel before a man did

When I saw the Boleyn question, I immediately knew that although it looks like a 50/50 question, I'd get it wrong.

And @branlito, I am one of those who thought the first person to swim the channel was a woman - specifically, Gertrude Ederle.

Canterbury was a pilgramage site long before Thomas Becket’s murder

That's what I thought. Becket's death definitely made it more popular, but it was already a well established pilgrimage.
