I spent some time in NZ myself and I do not recall any particular cheese fanaticism amongst the Kiwis! Weird! Nor do I think they'd be exporting to Asia, but maybe they're helping supply Australia for all I know.

They have loads of cows and sheep as you'll know from some other quizzes, but I agree that they don't seem to eat it as much as French, Dutch, Georgians etc

NZ is major dairy exporter to China

I'm assuming SOME is exported, otherwise Kiwis would be eating an average of 1.5kg of cheese a week (including babies and the lactose intolerant).

lol it's a known fact that French cheeses (comte, chêvres, brie, camembert, tomme de savoie and hundreds others) are best, Italian ones (parmigiana, burrata, mozzarella) are second.

When I visited Madrid and Galicia cheese was such a big deal (as was pork) so I expected to see Spain, but guess the rest of Europe loves Cheese more than Portugal, UK, Spain and Greece. Not surprised by there being no Central American, East Asian or African countries.

Places such as New Zealand produce a lot of cheese for export as well as local consumption. Whereas the UK, Spain etc. make enough cheese for local consumption and also import cheese from other sources. The population of places such as UK and Spain is large enough to bring down the averages:

Oct 19, 2019
It totally does not, otherwise you would just have the same old boring list of countries with high population (minus african and asian countries) (with exeptions of course, but much less interesting than this one. So it doesnt kill the stats it actually gives some interesting information, bigger countries always produce more of everything so that does not tell you much at all..)

Dairy farming uses a lot of land and also a lot of water. Also most people in Asia are lactose intolerant so dairy is not a major part of their diets. For example about 90% of ppl in China eat NO dairy products.

I am French. American "cheese" can not be counted as cheese and merely as comestible. The top 10 of your quiz have not a single cheese with more taste than tofu (except maybe for the Netherlands). You should be ashamed of calling that cheese.

Horrible horrible list. (and cheeses)

I express my sincere disappointment and hope that one day you shall taste real cheese. I come from the Meaux region in Nancy and await you.

My address is 29 Rue de la fromagerie Vandoeuvre-les-Nancy

Come taste my cheese ;)

France is hell for the lactose intolerant. Even sushi restaurants serve cheese for some reason.

Fortunately, I am extremely lactose tolerant so let me be the first to say "Vive la France!".

Fermentation digests the lactose in cheese, so it's mostly fine for the lactose intolerant. Sometimes people have other sensitivities they confuse for lactose intolerance.

American cheese is a style of processed cheese (not invented in the U.S.) and it's actually sometimes the right thing for the occasion due to the properties of its processing. Packaged American cheese (the kind that comes as individually-wrapped slices) is certainly particularly noisome, but deli-style American cheese (the kind they slice from a brick at a deli) is at least flavorful, and is a good thing to put on a burger.

"American cheese" also refers to "cheese made in the U.S." and there are many truly excellent cheeses made here, as I'm sure there are in all the countries on this list. Where I'm from we produce a bleu cheese that has won awards for being the best in the world in cheese competitions in France and I've seen it sold there in high-end fromageries. The French love their cheese and the cheese is excellent there but let's not pretend that only France can produce good cheese.

No idea how close it is to being on the list or if they don't show up on the report but I would think that Slovenia would really high on this list. Low population, relatively rural, surrounded of cheese making neighbors and almost 100% of the land ideal for grazing cattle, sheep and goats. If you listen to the Mavericks you'd think that Luka ate 100 pounds of it a day himself.
