Shouldn't Canada have 2 winter games ('88 Calgary and '10 Vancouver)?

And shouldn't they be above China for having hosted 3 Olympics?

Canada hosted Winter Olympics twice. Calgary in 1988 and Vancouver in 2010.

It's a bit weird that Germany have hosted the Winter Olympics just once, despite being so wildly successful in them!

Many of the medals are from East Germany which are now counted in for Germany as a whole. I assume that East Germany never applied for hosting Winter Olympics, because they don't have high mountains for the alpine competitions.

Few years ago, Munich wanted to apply, but citizens voted against it, because of the expected costs and raise of real estate prices and rent (which are among the highest in Germany already).

Btw.: Sweden never hosted Winter Olympics either.

I’ve never watched an Olympics, but how were the bulk of German winter medals from East Germany if they don’t have mountains as nice as West Germany and were far poorer too?

(Old comment, ik, but that random Jetpunk knowledge is always a nice tidbit)

They did have a large, state-led sports development system. Also, they were very successful in non-mountain sports such as ice skating.

East Germany was also in the East bloc, so there was probably a fair bit of performance enhancing drugs involved

many East German athletes took performance improving drugs

Doping, yes, but also East Germany does have mountains, the Thuringian Forest and Ore mountains do have a winter sports tradition. The country just wasn't interested in hosting the games, it seems.

The coldest it has ever been in Greece is -6,5 °C. I don't think they invented much of the winter games.

The order doesn’t make sense to me, the list is not sorted by # winter nor # summer nor total #. What is it sorted by?

only canada is out of place for total olympics held, this is because they originally placed it in the quiz with one winter. must have forgot vancouver.

One could argue that Moscow 1980 was the USSR, a different political entity

I find it amusing that Sweden and Finland have both hosted the Summer Olympics but never the Winter.
