Also, is getting paid every second Friday an American thing? Or a "paid in cash" thing? Here in Australia no particular day of the week is associated with payday.
I don't know if it's only a US thing, but it is definitely a thing here. It's very common for people to be paid every two weeks (usually every other Friday) or twice a month (say, on the 15th and the 30th).
i am from the netherlands and i have never heard of getting paid twice a month. here it's either weekly (very rare), every four weeks or just once a month. every other friday is so alien to me haha.
In Canada, I've always been paid fortnightly, but it was always on Wednesday. Now it's Tuesday. In my profession, the thing that happens every other Friday is Compressed Day. You work an extra hour the rest of the time to get a day off every two weeks.
