Maybe in your dialect, but not in the singer's. Listen to how he sings "feelin'" at the end of the song; it's got a long e sound, like in the word "bee." When he sings "thrill," though, it's got a short i sound, like "ih."

Have to disagree on that point. I have a couple of good friends who claim to be from "South Detroit." One is from Lincoln Park area, the other from Windsor, ON. You've got to go about 30 miles south of Detroit before you hit lake Erie...

Your friends can claim anything but there is no "south Detroit". Detroit has an east side and a west side. There is also southwest Detroit.

Steve Perry wrote the song after a concert watching a couple on a train at a mall in Southfield, MI. Ironically Southfield is north of Detroit.
