not a homophone for most accents in English. It seems to be based on RP which is only spoken by a few percent of English speakers mostly in the SE of England.

I would have gotten the Tolkien question if I was thinking straight. I interpreted that it meant the first and middle names were both "John Ronald Reuel". I.e. his name would be "John Ronald Reuel John Ronald Reuel Tolkien".
