Dang, that was hard. And I thought I was so clever for knowing that Finland was never taken over by the Soviet Union, but apparently they’re only 2% Russian-language!
Hundreds of thousands of Jewish people lived in Russia by the end of the 1800s. Russian pogroms (state sponsored violence against Jews) caused many to emigrate to other countries. As with all diasporas, Jewish emigrants tended to move into small, tight-knit communities, and likely would have maintained their Russian language. Even still, 4 million Jews remained in Russia, and a million Russian Jews fled east to escape the Nazi killing groups in western Russia. Following the Holocaust, a great number of Jews left for the newly established state of Israel.
Also, I should point out that Jewish people did not have a strong continuous population in the Middle East. The expulsion of Jews from the Roman Empire meant that virtually all Jews lived in a diaspora throughout Europe, Northern Africa, and, to a lesser extent, the Middle East. Eventually nearly half of all Jews were in the United States, as Europe typically was not tolerant of other religions.
But maybe that was already obvious
Refreshing to see people who are actually honest, instead of most of these "geniuses", pretending they got them all right!
