Start by naming any country that France borders. Then name any country that borders any of those countries. Then keep going until there are no more countries left to name.
Isn't/wasn't he the lead singer of Take That? Take That is one of those weird examples of a musical act that was HUGE in the UK (and other places maybe?) and never even made a blip on the charts in the States. The only place Americans *might* have heard of them is from that song at the end of the movie "Stardust".
Pretty sure that Gary Barlow was the lead singer (and songwriter) of Take That, though Williams and the others were given a handful of songs to take the lead on.
Take That had a single hit in the US with Back for Good, but it was a top 10. Millennium was also moderately popular when it came out, and its music video got plenty of play.
Funny to discover that Robbie Williams is barely known in the US. I thought every singers that sing in English and that I can hear on radio in France are known worldwide (I also thought he was American).
And regarding the first comments, do you really believe he is far worse than each of those present in this quiz? He is decent IMHO, definitely not the best but a song like "Feel" is quite nice to hear!
You don't know how lucky you are. As an Englishman I have had to put up with this talentless no mark for years. Problem is he thinks he is really talented our equivalent of Bieber.
Against everyone's advice I googled to see how bad he was. Basically take any crap power ballad pushed by record execs onto lipstick wearing hair bands of the 80s, remove the scratchy vocals and guitar torture and there ya go.
MTV, the New Yorker, Rolling Stone Magazine, the Grammy for best rap album, the Grammy for best rap song, BET Hip Hop awards, etc. The guy was widely acclaimed from 2007-2010; there’s just no denying that.
He is easily top 20 rappers of all time, if not top 10 or even top 5 hes released over 3000 songs, doesn't even write down most of his lyrics, and has flows and rhyme schemes that were unheard of at the time except MAYBE from Eminem. He also birthed the careers of many peoples favorite rappers like Nicki Minaj and Drake.
Thank God I never learned the name of that Green Day guy who's so arrogant about his bubblegum "punk" music. Although the Oasis guy was 10 times worse about his mediocre, middle of the road Britpop music.
For the most part. I had to think about Dua Lipa for a minute. She looks like some kind of Kardashian/Emma Roberts mash-up. The only thing I really know about her is the name, because it's so unique. Otherwise, I can't name one song by her.
You know what really grinds my gears? People saying staff like "This musician was/is really terrible" or "He/she has no talent". We're talking here about music, so basically about personal taste. The fact that you personally doesn't like someone's music doesn't give you the right to say such insulting things about it.
You’re mixing up personal tastes with objective criticism. Are you saying that any criticism of anything at all is invalid, as everything depends on your individual point of view?
I personally prefer a dirty BigMac over a steak. One is objectively better quality than the other, but I freely admit to liking the cheap and nasty version. Conversely, I’m not a fan of classical music, but would never deny the enduring quality it possesses, despite it not being to my taste. I love Banksy’s work, but would I try to argue that it is comparable to the Sistine Chapel?
The same goes for any artistic production, be it film, art or music. Most pop music is firmly in the fast food camp - popular with the masses, but OBJECTIVELY less good. Pop music fans tend to be largely ignorant of the huge variety of wonderful music available, as they are happy with their Maccie D’s. Good luck to them.
Stop whingeing about your own ignorance and get educated - or just admit that you like gash tunes…
Ilia's not saying it's not valid, they're complaining about the insults. I think that's fair enough - like if someone saw you eating a Big Mac and came over to tell you it's awful. That would person would be a prick, even if they're right.
“Stop whingeing about your own ignorance and get educated.” Well that’s an exclamation point to hammer home the central thesis: People have the right to be rude and condescending. So unnecessary.
You claim pop music is "objectively less good," but by what standard? Complexity? Innovation? Emotional impact? Pop excels in all these areas, with skilled songwriting, production, and performance. Dismissing it as "cheap" ignores the artistry behind its melodies, lyrics, and cultural influence.
You also assume pop fans are "ignorant" of other music—wrong. Many enjoy diverse genres but still appreciate pop’s accessibility and emotional connection. Simplicity doesn’t mean inferiority.
Music isn’t just about technical skill—it’s about how it makes people feel. If a song resonates with millions, that’s artistic success. So instead of looking down on pop and its fans, maybe broaden your understanding of what makes music valuable. I recommend Hurry Up Tomorrow by the Weeknd, Imaginal Disk by Magdalena Bay, and Blonde by Frank Ocean. These largely synthpop and r&b based albums are some of the best music of the past 10 years, and of all time
I agree. Especially when they're proud of themselves and are clearly going over the top with their disdain to appeal to others who want to show how anti-mainstream/anti-popular they are. Clearly being subjective - there will be less talented people who are less popular who do they will no doubt laud to look clever.
Really surprised Robbie Williams was more well-known than Keith Richards or Eddie Van Halen, especially considering he is virtually unknown in the U.S.
What's up with the comments above, bashing musicians? All the chosen individuals were picked from the exact same category: MUSIC! Whether Beethoven or Williams or Wayne or Minaj, whether one likes it or not, they succeeded in the industry, they made huge name out of themselves, got heaps of cash from what they do and now they are here on the quiz because, guess what... they're famous. If you claim to be "educated" because you only think one genre or one era of music is relevant and that new music is "rubbish" then think again. A lot of aristocrats thought of Beethoven - back in the day - what you are now thinking of Lil Wayne. The main purpose of these quizzes is that we're expected to at least know something about everything. Please don't show Jetpunkers as an arrogant lot.
He and Simon Cowell are the epitome of what is wrong with the music industry
He also did a cover of Somethin' Stupid with Nicole Kidman a few years ago.
And regarding the first comments, do you really believe he is far worse than each of those present in this quiz? He is decent IMHO, definitely not the best but a song like "Feel" is quite nice to hear!
Did not recognize The Weeknd from that picture.
