Please accept 'suit' for tuxedo.

Level 75

All suits don't have cummerbunds. And often they are worn with a tie rather than bow tie.

Not all atoms have neutrons, and not all cells have mitochondria. That doesn't indicate that neutrons and mitochondria are not part of atoms or cells. "Suit" should definitely be accepted.

May we also have "evening dress" and/or "evening suit"? I always thought the tuxedo was just the jacket. Presumably I'm mistaken :-S

Also, while we're at it, cars don't have fenders in Britain, so possibly (or possibly not) you may (or may not) want to change that to something that is the same on both sides of the pond.

No, but 'Black Tie' should probably be accepted, as that is the clothing standard referred to here.

I tried evening dress, formal dress, black tie, dinner suit. I also thought that a tuxedo was just a type of jacket.

I went with suit first, then dinner suit. Didn't think of tuxedo.

The clues for "saddle" are incorrect. The clues are for a western saddle as an English saddle does not have a horn and it will not accept western saddle as an answer.
+8
Level 65
Sep 18, 2013
Saddle is not incorrect. It is the commonly known term for the item. Most people on here are not horseback riding experts as you obviously claim to be.

That horn thing did kind of stop me guessing what it was (I used to ride quite a bit and I don't know what it's referring to). But these quizzes are a learning experience eh?

Fun quiz! I almost didn't get mushroom in time -- I kept trying 'fungus'.

Mushrooms.....bleeeechhhhhhttt!!!!!!! If I wanted to eat fungus, I'd suck on my socks.

I love mushrooms but I once ate a normally non-poisonous hen-of-the-woods that had apparently absorbed some type of bacteria, chemical, or poison from its surroundings. It made me violently ill. (The next day, a slice from the same mushroom had bright yellow streaks running through it.) The doctor told me to never ever eat another mushroom, not even from the store. He needn't have bothered. I feel ill when I even look at them.

Can mail be accepted for letter?
+1
Level 68
Jun 9, 2016
But those items are not parts of mail, they are parts of a letter. A clue for "mail" might be "Letters, Parcels, Postcards".

The QM put a lot of effort into making sure the clues were specific; it defeats the purpose if he then goes and just accepts everyone's random free associations as answers.

+1
Level 76
May 16, 2020
I think by mail he means email, not the stuff that comes by post. Emails are basically electronic letters

Technically, a hypotenuse is a part of a right-angled triangle, not any triangle, so the answer should be right-angled triangle. It would of course be fine to allow someone to type 'triangle' and get a correct score.

Loved the quiz by the way.

+1
Level 43

And a triangle doesn't have an "edge." Triangles have sides. Edges are for three dimensional polyhedra, such as a cube.

Triangle isn't correct for vertex, edge, hypotenuse as they are all present of 3d shapes excluding the sphere but not present on 2d shapes. Triangle is not a 3d shape
+1
Level 80
May 15, 2025
A vertex is a point where two or more lines, curves, or line segments meet. An edge is a line segment that joins two vertices. A hypotenuse is the side of a right triangle that is opposite the right angle. All of these things most distinctly occur in two dimensional shapes. Hypotenuse, in particular, by definition only occurs in a particular type of triangle.
