yep, got a big fat 0, and I am not even talking about points haha. (though I could haven gotten the top 6 in hindsight) This is a subject I know nothing about, so I thought I would click it and see if some information will stick. (not too sure that will happen though, a bit verwhelming haha, especially since many look/sound similar to me, so no memory aids. Like for canada alberta allways make me think of a cow, so I remember it. If I can attach the word to something it is much easier to remember)

Taiwan is not in this quiz. Hong Kong is a part of China that, officially at least, has full autonomous control over its territory. Of course we've recently found out that China is not good at keeping this promise, and it would be nice if Hong Kong could be freed from China, but for now it is definitely part of China.

Incorrect. Hong Kong has not ever wanted to leave China. HK will be part of China till end of Earth. If everyone leave when things get tough, how will China get better? The HKers being in China is very useful for us mainlanders, because that means the CCP will get the bad publicity. If someone is killed in Singapore by government would you blame CCP? Of course not. Same thing, if Hong Kong becomes independent then CCP loses blame.

Shanxi is west of mountain. Shaanxi is a term invented to differentiate them, it means west of pass.

Alright from what I understand it's because the difference that tone makes in Chinese.

The words Shǎn and Shān (in Pinyin, basically Chinese in English letters) have different meanings due to the different ways they should be pronounced.

To differentiate between them in English they decided to add another A to Shǎnxī.

Both are technically Shanxi, but they have different tones, so the one in the west is written as Shaanxi.

Uhhh no it's not. Unless you say "huh" like "huUUhhHh" or some other weird way, "河" sounds nothing like "huh".

No it definitely does in certain dialects and when speaking fast. I can tell you don't speak Mandarin because vowel variation across China is something that even intermediate learners can easily pick up on

Of course, it goes without saying that there are many different dialects with all sorts of different pronunciations. I was referring to standardized mandarin pronunciation though. Also, that was quite the unnecessary, not to mention incorrect, assumption to make about someone you don't even know.

"Xinjiang"is named by Chinese, after China recovered there from invaders.It means "newly reclaimed homeland",read "Gutuxingui" in Chinese.

The English of 内蒙古 is inner Mongolia but not nei meng gu, unlike other provinces that use pinyin as their English.

In this quiz you should answer English, not pinyin.

Please add Taiwan. The official name of Taiwan regime is "Republic of China" (ROC), they are still a part of China. Taiwan and mainland China are two regimes but one country.

THANK YOU for not including Taiwan as part of China. The thing is, both my parents are Taiwanese immigrants and all my grandparents live in Taiwan. I've heard a lot of people consider Taiwan part of China just because Taiwan's official name is "Republic of China"??? That doesn't make sense.

bro Taiwan is just not in PRC, doesn't mean it's not China, like 15% of the population was literally from Mainland China after civil war, and all people speak and read Chinese. Guess why the name is Republic of China? Because the entire government was basically moved from Mainland after the civil war. Just like saying one of the North or South Korea is not Korea.

I will learn these one day. I've finally successfully learned all the Indian States, just gotta keep practicing with China. Problem is they keep changing each time I do the quiz.

I was proud as punch when I remembered Heilingjiang and Qinghao, and then just confused until the time ran out and I was wrong by a single letter!

And I will eventually remember Gansu exists.

With no former research at all, I got 9/33. I'm gonna come back to this later to learn how to properly get them all after I'm done learning all the states of Brazil. I think its kind of interesting to know this stuff, especially if you talk to a Chinese person and they name drop one of them and you'll actually know it. I think people appreciate when you know about their country.

Xianggang and Aomen should be accept for Hongkong and Macau; Nei Menggu should be accept for Inner Mongolia; and also for Autonomous Regions, why only Xingjiang have a added ethnic name of Uyghur? Guangxi and Ningxia also have the name of minority ethnicity name after them in official name, it should be Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Regionand Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, or just remove Uyghur after Xingjiang.
