I really like this. Learned what NATO's flag looks like, which is neat, and what Buddhism's flag looks like, which is ugly. Isn't the religion about simplicity?
like @Sifhraven said, simply president was accepted so if you were to be able to type 'seat' you would've had to copy/past 'president seat' into your answer. Therefore, to be able to type president seat would mean you are a cheater.
Some are to display a wide array of colours and symbols on normally a quadrilateral piece of cloth (sorry Nepal, Ohio and other non-quadrilateral flags) which is then hung up high on a thin metal pole and slapped by the wind countless times, giving the iconic "waving" effect.
Currently (at least on mobile) the clues for each flag are one flag down than they ought to be so for example the clue for the Olympics says "(former country)". The UN has no clue at all.
The US states happen to be well known. They want to include things that people will actually be able to guess. Scotland, England, and Hong Kong are not in the US. You won't see Ad Dakhiliyah Governorate on these quizzes. Do you want to?
As a patriotic and passionately pro-independence Scot, I have a satisfying grin to see that the same percentage of quizzers know both the Scottish Saltire and England flags. If I could suggest as a really difficult challenge, you could sub the 'Lion Rampant of Scotland' flag for the Saltire. I don't imagine many people recognising it unless they've seen Scottish fans at sporting events.
The flag doesn't represent the building, it represents the President. It will fly wherever the President is at that time, so if he's not in the White House, it won't be flown there.
really, they take all the flags down, the one in the oval office too when he is out? do they put it in some kind of janitor closet?? Do they take the pole/stick/standard it is on away as well, or do they leave that standing?
Can't be bothered to read if this is already in the comments but New Mexico and California considered to be 'sub-national unit's in the same vein as England or Hong Kong is jaaaarrrrrrrriiiiiiinnnggggggg x
yea, since scotland and england are countries (yes they are, just not sovereign... it is the UNITED kingdom and these are the countries that are united, and northern ireland) I expected the other subnational ones to be aswell. (The description for them in itself is correct though). I was thinking of stuff some considered countries and others not, like western sahara and palestine.
That would be Sri Lanka, specifically a flag committee in Sri Lanka in 1885. Sri Lanka is a Theravada Buddhist country so Zen doesn't really come into it at all.
It's supposed to represent the aura the Buddha supposedly emanated when he attained enlightenment, and the last band is supposed to represent the other five colours combined into a single colour, however that works.
19/20 on my first go, pretty pleased with that. Only missed New Mexico, though I had a feeling it would be a southern US state. Have to admit that France and Buddhism were both lucky guesses though.
I know I may get reported for it, but Japan's old naval flag is extremely insulting to Chinese, Koreans, and anyone who suffered under harsh Japanese rule during the imperial Japanese period. Please consider removing it.
I'd no idea that Texas was formerly a country. Obviously I have a lot of history brushing up to do. But, as t'was the only one that I stumbled on, I guess that I shouldn't grumble.
I wrote West Germany and it wasn't accepted. Also Soviet wasn't accepted (but president and Pride and UN were) - just a little inconsistent on what parts of the title are accepted (or not).
Would it be possible to add West Germany for the german flag? it was a variant of the flag used throughout the separation of east and west, in the west afaik.

please make another one
Good quiz. Thanks for your efforts in making it.
ez
England and Scotland aren't really sub-national cuz they are countries 'on their own' but they are so it's just weird.
