Much more fun than the Harry Potter books quiz since these books don't suck. Disappointingly, I did much better on the Harry Potter one.. :( I can't believe I missed Matilda.. probably my 2nd favorite Dahl book... but more disappointing still is the failure to include Boy, which was my favorite. Maybe it doesn't count as a "children's story," but I read it as a child and loved it.

huh? this was the first definition I found online: "an account of imaginary or real people and events told for entertainment." ... how is Boy not a story?

I would think of an autobiography more as a collection of stories. And it isn't fiction, though some aspects are probably fictionalised. It also isn't a novel. But I suppose you could argue it was a story.

Also thought Henry Sugar was a children's story -- which is what's so great about Dahl: it wasn't so obvious he was writing down to kids.

You should accept the Giant Peach for James and the Giant Peach. I would've gotten 100% if it weren't for that book! But good quiz, even though I guess Boy wasn't included.

If the quiz title was Roald Dahl Children's Stories, that would reduce the number of comments asking for Boy and Going Solo to be included. Given the current title, I agree that Boy and Going Solo (autobiographical) should be on the list, as well as Revolting Rhymes (poems).

2001 - Roald Dahl's Guide to Railway Safety (this is admittedly on the borderline as to whether it is a children's book or not - but it is generally found in children's departments at libraries and in book stores)

....and it is actually called Billy & The Minipins.

My mother worked in the children's department at the local library for a long while so I can remember the book covers.

The title + desecription together say it has to be a book that's a story, so if you go by that it discounts Henry Sugar (not one story), Revolting Recipes, and the Guide to Railway Safety (not stories). The caveat says no poetry which gets rid of Dirty Beasts and Rhyme Stew. It seems weird to include a translation (Sleekit Mr. Tod) as a separate book, maybe it should be a type-in. Which just leaves The Great Mouse Plot, which I hadn't heard of, but nothing says it can't be one short story so should either be included or caveated. (And a caveat to exclude collections wouldn't hurt for Henry Sugar)

P.S. Wiki says only the 2017 edition was renamed to Billy and the Minpins

The original book was simply called The Minpins and was republished in 2017 as Billy and the Minpins (I'll admit I had to Google the date of republishing).

If you have not read the minpins I HIGHLY recommend. I remember my teacher in primary school reading it to me about 13 years ago, very haunting but fun and a totally different art style from Quentin Blake too!

I think I must have the best grandmother in the world - she bought me all of Roald Dahl's books for my 10th birthday. Henry Sugar was the best one, in my opinion.

Dahl is one of the darkest and most twisted children’s storytellers of all time. Puts Harry Potter in the shade. He never stopped seeing the world through children’s eyes, which is why his work connects so powerfully

This quiz could use an overhaul. Minpins full title is Billy and the Minpins and quiz wouldn't accept the correct answer. Also, where is Henry Sugar? Really enjoyed the quiz, but maybe it could be turned into something with clues regarding specific books.
