Saint Francis was born during the 12th century in Assisi, so his "nationality" would probably best be described as from Holy Roman Empire. Whether that classifies as "Italian" is debatable, especially since over time the HRE morphed (shrunk, actually) into terrtory we now call Germany.
If Columbus has a higher population, that settles that, but for the record, if Saint Francis isn't Italian, then neither is Columbus. The sovereign state known as Italy dates from the 1870s - the cultural area is way older than that.
Using the "city proper" makes this quiz a lot less fun. I appreciate the effort, but labelling San Francisco as an 800,000-person city is definitely misleading and makes the answers seem arbitrary. I mean, the "city proper" boundaries are pretty arbitrary in the first place, right?
Thought for sure the answer for a woman's name was Madison, but it turns out it's tiny - I always think of it as similar to Minneapolis for some reason.
Nice one QM but the stinginess of the time allowed shows up in the low average score (9!)...the clues require a bit of thought, esp for us non-US people...should add another 2 mins imo. But thanks for the quiz
...I really don't think 'West' is a subjective term though? I mean even if they meant "west of the thumb and including the UP" Grand Rapids is still the biggest.
Bad news: I've spent the last ten years of my life living in two of them
