And poppy seeds. Also second in legal opium (overtaken by Tasmania), there's even a city called Afyon (opium).

Huh, I was somewhat expecting China to be present in more than one category. I guess manufacturing is where they're stronger

We tried to avoid too many repeats. China leads the world in a huge number of agricultural and resource-extraction categories. It would be a boring quiz if you just guessed "China" for half of the answers.

Cork is basically a chunk of dead plant cells, unfortunately, I don't know how they make it. They plug wine bottles with it though.

It's bark from a species of oak called predictably "cork oak". Portugal produces over 80% I think.

Vigorous trees, too. If I'm not mistaken, the oldest cork tree still in use was planted in the late 1700s.

I once tutored an ESL student from the Mexican state of Michoacán. Even though it's not a particularly rich area of Mexico, he told me that it produces more avocados than any other part of Mexico, and is called the "Avocado Capital of the World." In fact, it accounts for 92% of Mexico's avocado production! I find that pretty amazing.

Which is pretty crazy, because when travelling around Mexico for 2 months, I saw avocados growing all over the place. Michoacan itself must be over 90% avocado

Every time I hear the word dates relating to fruit I think of "Sugar dates. Sugar dates and figs! Sugar dates and pistachios!!!" from Aladdin and it gets stuck in my head.
