Agreed. 5 years basically means you get it right if you know the right decade. 2 years feels like it would be more of a challenge.

Well, as a matter of pure math, two years would certainly be more of a challenge. I don't think it would improve the quiz though. It's not much fun to get killed before you have a chance to guess half of them. Just pat yourself on the back for getting within a year or two.
