I thought formal evening wear was "black tie". Never heard "white tie".

Among the fashion elite, "black tie" (standard tuxedo with a black bow tie) is considered semi-formal. "Formal" is white tie, top hat and tails. But (especially in the US) black tie has, and is, moved more and more into the "formal" spot, as white tie basically disappears. Back in 2007 it was in the news - first lady Laura bush insisted that W wear white tie formals at a state dinner honoring Queen Elizabeth.

White tie has a very strict dress coat. For men it specifically means wearing a tailcoat and a white bow tie among other pieces of clothing.

@kogatora I didnt even see the error, I had allready type a message explaining you what dresscode is haha. now I see it. Must be a slip of the pen, not weird thinking of coats when the next word in the sentence is tailcoat.

White Tie is common for very dressy events--the White House holds them. If you read the articles under the photos you will always be told why the President is wearing a white tie, vest... Queen holds these events as well.

They were magicians in Las Vegas who used white tigers and lions in their act. A tiger sunk its teeth into Roy's neck and dragged him offstage during a performance in the early 2000s. He nearly died, and it put an end to their Vegas show.

It wouldn't work because the subject of the quiz is the word "white", and "The Beatles" doesn't include that word.

Would it? Those of us who live nowhere near the Great lakes or on a different continent have virtually no chance of knowing, or guessing that, unless the question is worded in such a way as to make it very obvious.
