As of July 2015, the United States now has diplomatic relations with Cuba.

Why Taiwan? If anything, because of their position with China you'd think that want American support.

China made several threats to Taiwan to cease diplomatic relations with the US or else.....

It's exactly because of the relationship between China and Taiwan. I'm sure Taiwan would love to be allies with the US, but we don't want to jeopardize our relations with China I guess.
