I entered Dec 7 1941 for "day of infamy". I feel this should be accepted as it is the most specific response, seems to me.

The 'zeppelins' you're thinking of are probably the barrage balloons. They were tethered with steel cables to disrupt low flying aircraft, like Stuka dive bombers, etc.
