Maybe accept answers like "Nile" or "Michigan" for Nile river and Lake Michigan and so on.

I think you should accept "Everest", or at least "Mount Everest". As you can see from the answer stats, not many people thought to put "Mt.". Also, the river and lake questions still require the words "river" and "lake" in the answer.
