I'm guessing for the sake of competition they aren't counting pizza as Italian cuisine - otherwise I imagine it would be Italy by an overwhelming majority. However, I know people disagree as to whether pizza is actually Italian cuisine or not (I don't care enough to research the matter but a lot of people argue it is Italian-American and not Italian-Italian if you get my drift).

By Mediterranean I'm guessing you mean Middle Eastern? Things like Donair, Shwarma, Falafel right?

Saying to take it up with the source is no excuse for an ambiguous or incorrect question or answer. Mediterranean isn't a cuisine, except in the minds of some Americans.
