EXCLUSIONS:

The Republic of South Maluku is excluded due to limited recognition of statehood.

ASSIMILATIONS:

- England and Great Britain are included with the United Kingdom

- The Iberian Union is included with Spain

EXTRA:

Russia is on the list because of Fort Elizabeth, Fortress Alexander and Fort Barclay-de-Tolley. Since the Czardom never recognized or condoned these expeditions they are greyed out.

Portugal and East Indonesia are on the list because of territory held in the Maluku islands, due to ambiguity of the continent these islands are a part of they are greyed out.

For most of its independent history yes, Hawaii was a native Kingdom. In 1894 however, the Republic of Hawaii was founded by American businessmen and subsequently native rule ceased.
