US States Connect by Proximity

Start with Maine. Then guess its next closest non-neighbouring, not-already-guessed state. Then guess that states' next closest non-neighbouring, not-already-guessed state.
Proximity means the shortest distance between two states (not distance between geographical centres). Distance can be measured over water.

Great idea and a great quiz! Definitely deserves a feature.

I would definitely recommend increasing the timer, perhaps even doubling it. Even moving at a steady clip, I barely had enough time to squeeze all 50 in.

There's also two typos in the quiz description. There's an extraneous "s" in "state's", and the final word presumably should be "state" instead of "country".

Thanks for the help! I've increased the time limit to 6:00 - I'm not sure how I settled on the previous time, but it definitely wasn't enough.

Like the concept, a lot. The time limit is BRUTAL and really hurts the quiz. Will nom if it increases enough to make a difference.

The difference between the distance from Connecticut to New Hampshire and the distance from Connecticut to Vermont must be subtle, right? It must come down to the two long east-west portions of Massachusetts's border not being precisely parallel.

Nominated! 6:00 is great time limit - challenging, but do-able. (Didn't get it on my first 2 attempts, but it didn't frustrate me enough to make me quit, and I finally got it on the 3rd try.) Really fun!!

How is Rhode Island the answer for New York and not Ohio? Ohio is 57 miles from New York, while Rhode Island is 180 miles from New York.

The Rhode Island / New York distance is measured from the very end of Long Island. The distance between Long Island, NY and Block Island, RI is only 14 miles. Even if you exclude Block Island, Long Island is only 16 miles away from the Rhode Island mainland.

Seems to me that it should be Wyoming - North Dakota rather Wyoming - Kansas?

Hmm, also looks like the southernmost point of West Virginia is slightly closer to North Carolina than Tennessee?

Great catch on Wyoming - not sure how I missed it the first time. Quiz has been updated accordingly. As far as WV compared to Tennessee or North Carolina - if you zoom in close on Google Maps, you'll find Tennessee has a piece of land where the border sticks up further north than North Carolina.
