Method of Selection:

For the most part, the most populous agglomerations according to cp.de were selected to be part of the poll until it reaches the 40 option limit per poll. Then, users may add other options they feel are plausible.

Mecca and Jerusalem not being there is crazy. You could probably argue that for many people they’re the 2 most important cities in the world.

Why would that not be believable? Many members of the Discord server are not very religious and have made their decisions based on impact on geopolitics and finance. Mecca and Jerusalem are definitely very important in a religious context, but considering neither is a major political, financial, or technological hub, how impactful are they on the modern world?

For the record, Mecca had 7 votes whereas Jerusalem had 20.

The process should be explained because it biases the selection. Giving options to people (and allowing them to add more) leads to very different results than just asking them to directly give their own answers without « hints » of what they could/should answer.

Larger cities are generally way more important anyway, so it shouldn't be a major problem for the most part. Being able to see what others voted also allows for discussions in chat.

After all, this is just a poll series for fun, not a survey for analytical purposes.
