HinesBrothers made a similar quiz on the same day. Both quizzes are excellent. I featured this one because JPin8497 has fewer features. I did borrow some of the questions from HinesBrothers and also added a few of my own.

Maybe a caveat that some of the countries no longer exist, as the Soviet Union is an answer

I totally fluked the country ending in Y. I hadn't got a European country with a capital beginning with A, so I wanted to go back to it, but forgot to move the yellow box. BINK!

Turkey is a European country with a capital that is before Berlin in the alphabet, but Ankara is actually in Asia. Probably should be an acceptable answer, seeing as it says "European country" and not "European city". Still, facepalm at not thinking of Amsterdam.

After reading the first clue I got it in my head it was asking for European countries for all the answers. Couldn't figure out why nothing I typed was working. When my sanity finally returned too much time had elapsed to finish the ones I skipped. Sigh.

This happened to me throughout the quiz, I did not constantly think it was about Europe and when I did I caught on and corrected myself, only for it to keep happening several times over again..

Like a shopping cart with a wonky wheel... *veers off "No.. this way!" *veers off again... sigh..

+2
Level 84

That's true, yet it is also disrespectful when those in charge have double standards and ignore the decisions of certain countries regarding their own name, while being more than willing to change names according to requests made by some other countries. For example, Kiev (Russian spelling) was replaced with Kyiv (Ukrainian spelling) in the English language media, and no one blinked an eye. What makes Turkiye/Turkey any different?
+1
Level 60
Sep 17, 2025
The decisions of countries have nothing to do with it. They can request it, but they have nothing to decide on the matter, as we are talking about the exonym in another language, over which Turkey has no power, nor should it have.

The moment everybody starts referring to my home country by its endonym, and our cities by theirs, I shall happily endeavour to reciprocate. Until then, Grüße aus Deutschland!

(Not Almanya)

Turkey just asked the US State Dept to change its official spelling to Turkiye, so it no longer ends in a Y. I'm not sure what the source is for the spelling of the names of countries, but just thought I'd bring this to peoples' attention in case the quiz needs to be revised now.
