Just a quick correction: pterodactyls are not classified as dinosaurs.

Another correction, Pterodactyls is more of a nickname. No actual species is called Pterodactyl.

Apr 18, 2025
Just how no species is actually called "bird" either.
+1
Level 69
Apr 26, 2026
Well in that case it would be "pterosaurs", not pterodactyl. The only official name that has anything to do with Pterodactyl is a species of pterosaur named Pterodactylus. Pterodactyl is often incorrectly used as a place holder for all pterosaurs.

A satellite is not necessarily man-made. The moon is a natural satellite, the orbiting another celestial body is key.

Level 67
Mar 8, 2022
But if it is a man-made machine orbiting the earth, then it is a satellite, after all, is it not?

Who wants to discuss what "flying" means on physical grounds!

Level 77
Apr 7, 2020
Yeah, there is a difference between flying and floating.

And things don't really "fly" in space. There is no air.

Yeah dragons, griffins, and fairy's etc. can't fly on a physical ground because they don't physically exist!

Those things fly in concept of their own free will, defy gravitational force, and can change direction.

A satellite does the complete opposite.

I don't really have a problem if ballons, zeppelins and blimps are said to be flying, though stricly speaking, flying relies on the aerodynamic balance between gravity and lift, and not on density. Comets and satellites clearly don't fly though, they are in free motion in the void. Satellites in low earth orbit undergo a bit of friction from the outer layer of the atmosphere but I wouldn't call that flying...

Things that fly. Don't be silly, everyone knows what it means.
+4
Level 82
Apr 26, 2020
If we accept that a satellite or a comet "fly", then any object with mass can do it, too (a rock, animal, a table, a person...)
+8
Level 41
Apr 26, 2020
We don't need to nitpick this. Some might be a stretch but everyone knows exactly why all of these are here.

"Things That Can Levitate or Be in Motion Through the Air or in the Void in a Way That is Not Necessarily Always Technically Accurately Called Flying" would be a bit of a tongue-twister for the title, so I think it's fin as is.

A satellite is not a machine, moons are satelites. The things orbiting the earth for images and gps etc are manmade satellite.Satelite simply means something that stays nearby/hangs around something else. You could say a follower

Or is the quizmaster of the persuasion that moons are actually hollow machines used to spy on us? ;)

I always thought hummingbirds were the fastest birds. After looking it up I learned they are the fastest according to length traveled per body length but at 40 mph they are nowhere near the fastest bird. Another "fact" taught to me in grade school shot down. However, one fact that I think still holds is that bats are not rodents. As tripdoc said, they are in their own order.
