Given the realignments that now have transformed the power conferences - such as USC, UCLA, Oregon and Washington joining the Big Ten - apparently travel inconvenience and expense is not as big of an issue as it has been in the past, at least for the major sports. I think Stanford and Berkeley would be naturals for a reformed and redefined Ivy League, as would Vanderbilt, Rice, and a few others that are not the most competitive in their respective sports leagues (since the Ivies are really officially an athletic conference). Duke is just as good academically but in a different league (figuratively) in sports such as basketball. MIT is also just as good academically but doesn't fit the conference as much since it does not field teams in a lot of major sports.
The other schools listed here are easily the equal of the Ivy League schools in terms of academic quality, but only the "Ancient Eight" qualify as answers. Relatively easy for me since I attended three of them and have been to all eight campuses for hockey or football games.
Depends on the university. If it's another big university, possibly, especially if it's an elite university. But I'll never promote my university for multiple reasons.
Serious question - what is it with you folks that wouldn't bat an eye (and neither would I) at someone proudly proclaiming that they went to Notre Dame or Michigan or Ohio State or Alabama, but all of a sudden you're triggered by someone mentioning that they attended an Ivy League school. On a quiz about the Ivy League no less. Imagine that!!
You weren't "mentioning that you attended an Ivy League school." You arrogantly proclaimed that you attended three. To answer your question, proudly saying you own a Toyota or a Ford is not the same as saying you own three Rolls Royces.
I wasn't "arrogantly" saying anything. I was explaining why this quiz was relatively easy for me, just like lots of other folks do on other quizzes when they are intimately familiar with the subject matter. Again, why are folks so sensitive about all this? It's kinda bizarre.
Paraphrased from Wikipedia: It's technically a collegiate-level sports division in the Northeastern USA, although the term is usually used more broadly to refer to the eight member universities in any context. They are known for academic excellence, selective admissions, and all-around snobbishness.
I was also surprised about the low score for Yale until I remembered that it is a sudden death quiz. So those folks who reasonably guessed schools such as MIT and Stanford (quite often as shown by the stats for incorrect answers) would blow up before they got to Yale which is the last school on the list. The relatively low score for Princeton is a little more surprising since it is higher up on the list.
Kick out Cornell and Dartmouth. Add MIT and Stanford.
