Category 5 Southern Hemisphere Cyclones by satellite image

Cyclones are hurricanes/typhoons in the southern hemisphere. Local agencies such as Météo-France, the BOM, and the FMS has their own scale for tropical cyclones, but the SSHWS is used here with data from the JTWC. Most Images of the storms are of peak intensity, or near it at category 5 status, but some aren't due to a lack of images. There are 40 storms on this list. There are no category 5 cyclones prior to 1988 as per JTWC BT data since older SHEM TC data was of poorer quality. Updated March 2026.
