I thought Sahel was way up north, in the Maghreb region. All because of the Etoile du Sahel (Star of Sahel) football club, which is Tunisian)

Sahel simply means shore in Arabic, so the Sahel here is a figurative shore with the desert being the sea and the Tunisian Sahel is a litteral shore
