The dutch overseas posetions seem a a weird inclusion in this list.

Might as well include every other european island which has some form of self rule then. Would have thought more along the line of Abkhazia or Transnistria. Or maybe Bougainville which is poised for independence

Hi,

Thank you for your comment. Aruba, Curaçao and Sint-Maarten are included here (Countries 197-205 Flags) given their specific position in the Kingdom of the Netherlands and to make the distinction with Saba, Sint-Eustatius and Bonaire (included in my other quiz 'Countries 206 to 242 Flags').

Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten → They are autonomous countries within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. They have their own government and parliament, but the Kingdom handles foreign affairs, defense, and constitutional guarantees.

Bonaire, Saba, Sint Eustatius → They are special municipalities of the Netherlands. That means they are directly part of the Netherlands, with local councils but under Dutch law (with some adaptations).

In short: Aruba, Curaçao and Sint-Maarten are considered self-governing countries, while the second group are municipalities of the Netherlands itself. As self-governing countries, their status is quite similar to Greenland and Faroe and I choose to include them here

Of course, it has been hard sometimes to make groups of 'countries' for my quizzes given the specifics of every territory etc.
