The US uses the 5-tiered Schedule system to classify the legality of a medication.
Can you guess what schedule (1-5 or I-V) these well known medications fall in?
Some medications fall under two schedules depending on dosage, both schedules will be accepted.
- Fixed Zolpidem/Ambien being labeled as Schedule II -> now correctly labeled as Schedule IV
- Fixed GHB being labeled as Schedule I/II -> now correctly labeled as Schedule I/III
Clarifications:
- Flunitrazepam is technically Schedule IV as it pertains to federal law, however trafficking it carries Schedule I penalties
- Propofol is not federally scheduled under the Controlled Substances Act (surprisingly), but some states do have laws treating it as a controlled substance. For the sake of this quiz, being federally-focused, it will continue to be labeled as "Unscheduled" unless federal law changes.
- Marijuana/Cannabis is currently in the process of being rescheduled to a lower tier, however as of 2/16/26 the rescheduling has not been made official and it is still Schedule I federally. When the rescheduling is finalized I will update the quiz again.
As always, let me know if you have any suggestions.
