To be fair, Namibia is basically all desert, the driest country in sub-Saharan Africa, but even some non-polar desert are not scoarching hot all-year. Also, Namibia's shoreline is affected by the cold Benguela current.

Somewhat comparable to northern Chile / coastal Peru

Yeah deserts at a whole are pretty famous for having a wide range of temperatures. Scorching in the day and freezing at night.
