Fill the World Map by Guessing the Closest Country
Name the closest non-bordering country from the last one you guessed until you've filled in the entire world map. The game starts with the United States.
Not counting any overseas territories
Saudi Arabia and Bahrain are considered as bordering countries since they share an artificial border on Passport Island
Name all the countries in the world that are either inside the Arctic Circle, or can reach it by sailing due north and not hitting any other country on the way.
The country after Netherlands should be St. Kitts and Nevis. Saba is NOT an overseas territory, but a special municipality of the Netherlands.
Even if Saba was an overseas territory (which you could debate), the country after France should be Dominica. Guadeloupe is definitely not an overseas territory, and it is much closer to Dominica than metropolitan France is to Austria.
Both of the territories you are mentionning are literally overseas regions.
"Guadeloupe is definitely not an oversas territory" > You chose the wrong person to say this so confidently because i am french and i can tell you i never heard someone saying such a thing...
Makes sense, but you should really specify that in the caveats. The vast majority of quizzes on JetPunk don't count French overseas regions as "overseas territories".
"That are too far away from the mainland" is exactly why discounting overseas territories is a bad idea. How do you decide what is too far away and what is close enough? How is someone else supposed to guess what you decided? In the order of this quiz, it only comes up a couple times, but it's really hard to know, for example, which of Australia's islands are counted and which are not. Are we counting the Torres Strait islands, but not Norfolk Island or Christmas Island? That would be one reasonable way to interpret this, but certainly not the only way. Maybe count none of the islands? What about Spain's territories in North Africa, or the Canary Islands? Is Gibraltar close enough?
The easiest ways around this are either 1: include all overseas territories, or all populated overseas territories, or 2: use the Jetpunk standards for what does and does not count.
Honestly I'm not a huge fan of the Jetpunk standards, but they are easy to learn and then you aren't left guessing.
I love this quiz - took a few tries to figure out the entire string, but now I've completed it a couple of times just to try to lower my time. Thanks for all the effort to compile this for our enjoyment.
As I said before, 40 minutes would allow way too many errors so the quiz wouldn't be even challenging. If you have enough time to try the 10 countries around each of them everytime, do you really think you deserve a 5/5?
The one after PNG threw me, because I knew the closest Australian island was only a few km from PNG but did not know that the nearest Solomon Islands island was just 2 km. Learn something new every day!
Would be really fun to me too imo but as i already need some dozens of hours to work on such a quiz, I guess i would need literally years to do such a thing so that's sadly a big no. If anyway is interested in wasting such a big time though, I'd be glad to play their quiz :)
Hey, are you sure that the Solomon Islands are closer to PNG? Since you indicated the distance to be 2km, I assume you measured between Kukuvulu Island and Elo Island, but Kukuvulu Island also belongs to Solomon Islands according to this source:
In that case, the closest distance would be Kukuvulu Island to Alasina Island at roughly 3.7km which is pretty much the same distance as Saibai Island to mainland PNG.
Wow, this was really hard! I had to turn off the timer because I was having fun completing it and had only made it to country #68 by the 20-minute mark.
Fantastic quiz! Certainly a quiz where you can't get away with just knowing all Caribbean island states, or all the 'Stans'. This teaches you proper placement!
Very interesting idea for a quiz. Will be playing over and over. I feel like DRC should go to Tanzania over Lake Tanganyika, but maybe I am missing something.
very fun! got stuck after domrep because I was sure the next one would be a caribbean island and trying them all out before I finally saw Colombia... 79/195, looking forward to try again
Thank you though and thanks to the Quizmaster!

Overall the quiz has been made to avoid including these kind of places that are too far away from the mainland
The easiest ways around this are either 1: include all overseas territories, or all populated overseas territories, or 2: use the Jetpunk standards for what does and does not count.

...except NZ itself :D

Are we sure Republic of Congo closer to Chad than Angola? Angola looks so much closer on a map!
I kept trying Montenegro for so many and I was LIVID when I left Europe with it never being correct! >.
(I love it!!!!)
185/196
But their is no way Dominican republic is closer to Nicaragua than St Kitts and Nevis
