According to Google, Syria's population has gone down to 18.4

That is due to Bashar al-Assad's regime killing relations with other countries, starving their people, and attacking them. The reason the population has dropped so low is because of refugees migrating to Western European countries, like Germany, and occasionally the United States.

Cambodia falls short of 18 million (17.01 million) while Mauritania doesn't even have 5 million! (4.24 million)
