Countries Named After People

Can you guess these countries named after people? The namesakes of the countries are given, try and guess the country's name!
Has to be the name the country is known by, so "Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela" won't work.
Translated names, i.e. Hayastan for Armenia, also do not count
Both real and legendary/mythological figures are included
Names with a (?) next to it means the claim is disputed

It can be tricky! It is debated on whether or not Laos was named after the goddess Lava, which is why i put the "?" after to show the uncertainty.

Turkey was named after Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

Ataturk was granted that surname in 1934, 9 years after the country of Turkey had been founded. "Turkey", and Turks as a whole had existed for centuries before Ataturk was even born.

Georgia? Named after St George?

Also there's various other countries named after legendary figures along the same lines as Bang, Nor, and Rus.

Georgia is more commonly believed to have been named after the Persian term for wolf "Gurgan". If you have additional countries named after legendary figures please tell me and I'll happily add them to the quiz.

Norway is definitely not named after a person. the NOR part is "north".
