Sort of. It became an independent nation from Spain, then the US turned it into a more of a puppet state than outright annexed it. So it could be argued either way between the US and Spain. In the UK quiz, Canada is listed as gaining independence in 1867, when in reality, we weren't truly independent at that point. So if Canada counts as independent in 1867, shouldn't the Philippines count as having gotten its independence from Spain?
If im not mistaken, Belgium gained independence from the Netherlands and Morrocco is on the "countries who got independence from France" quiz (which I belive is by QM)
From the instructions: "Refers to countries which after independence were not incorporated into the colonial empires of other nations"
After gaining independence from Spain, Panama was later incorporated into Gran Colombia, hence invalidating it for this quiz.
(Whether that counts as being part of a "colonial empire" is perhaps debatable - that language in the instructions could possibly be tightened up a bit.)
If you type in a random string of letters with dr in it, it accepts it for Dominican Republic. I discovered this by typing in Ecuadr on accident. It even accepts khhdfkjkshfjhsgfkfgjlhfsgsdjslkDR or alfjkhdsjkhnjkDRkkfhdksj.
You are right about Belgium. Apparently didn't spend much time on research when I first made this quiz.
