What about hemoglobin? It's a protein containing iron.

Here’s what I found: “The iron atom is not part of the protein chain itself (meaning it’s not one of the elements making up the amino acid sequence). Instead, iron is embedded in a non-protein group called heme. Hemoglobin is a metalloprotein, a protein that binds a metal ion (in this case, Fe²⁺) to do its job, which is binding oxygen.”

Analogy: A guitar is made of wood, glue, and strings. A capo helps it do its job, but it’s not part of the guitar itself. Iron is the capo.
