This took a while to make, simply because it's hard to decide which countries to include and which colonies were significant enough to be considered "owned" by a country.
Plus I would also contend that starting with 1864 at least their conquest of Tashkent all the way to the conquest of Merv from the Qajars in the 1890s qualifies Russia as a colonizer of every modern Central Asian nation preceding their Soviet counterpart.
yeah i had seen that, but i chose not to add it, it was hard because i tried to do research on every single country and it was tough to decide which countries had colonized enough of the land to be worth adding
Very good quiz, although I think you're missing some stuff there, like Netherlands owning both Suriname and Guyana, because Guyana was mostly a British colony.
thank you, i was going off the source I had and tbh I don't think some of it really counts as "colonizing", so this quiz isn't fully accurate by any means, but for the most part it is
There are several errors. For example Guyana has been a british colony, not a dutch one. Many island nation which had been under british rule are here assigned only to other powers (St Lucia, St Vincent, St Kitts, Trinidad, Seychelles, Mauritius). Palau is missing, Micronesia has also been a german and spanish colony. For the US you should also add Russia (Alaska), Sweden (Delaware), Denmark (US Virgin Islands) and Germany (Northern Mariana Islands and Guam). Central Asia has been conquered by the Russian Empire, not by USSR, same for Caucasus countries. Some nations has been under portuguese rule for some time (Sri Lanka for example). Consistent parts of Gabon, R. of the Congo (and a bit fo Nigeria, Car and Chad) had been part of german Kamerun. Libya hasn't been colonized by the French. For China you should add Germany (Qingdao), for India Portugal, Denmark and France (Goa, Nicobares, Pondicherry) and for Ghana the Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark
1) the first people who colonised Guyana was the Netherlands. they lost Guyana after the 3 anglo-dutch wars.
2) while it is true that countries like Mauritius became independent from the UK. it was France who colonised it for the longest. culturally speaking they are closer from France than the Uk
2) while it is true that countries like Mauritius became independent from the UK. it was France who colonised it for the longest. culturally speaking they are closer from France than the Uk
those 2 points apply for many of those ''errors''
