Akhenaten was the first king of Egypt to be titled “pharaoh” - before that they were called kings.

Pharaoh is defined in the English language as a ruler of Ancient Egypt. If we are going to be that picky, we shouldn't use "king" either, since the Egyptians didn't speak English.
